The Institutehas theR&DDepartment,
whichemploys 40 researchers.When fostering
the renewal of the academia and training
of themost highlyqualified specialists in
international affairs, the Institutepays close
attention topost-graduate, doctor training,
and to continuingeducationof the trainers.
Every year the Instituteenrolsmore than120
Ukrainian and foreignpost-graduate students;
circa 100members of thedepartmentswork
as aspirants seeking theCandidateof Sciences
Degree, and20– that of theDoctor of Sciences
Degree. There are three specialisedCouncils for
Defending Theses, namely, Political Problems of
International Systems andGlobal Development,
WorldHistory,World Economy and International
Economic Relations, Organizationof Economic
Management, Planning andRegulation,
International Law, the Theory andHistoryof State
and Law, Historyof Political and Legal Doctrines.
Nearly 60PhD students fromArabic countries
defended their thesis, including20 from Jordan,
6 from Lebanon, 15 from Syria, 7 fromYemen.
The academiaof the Institute contributes
greatly to thedevelopment of theUkrainian
national studies. The Institutehosts international
conferences, symposia, workshops, and
round tablediscussions of International Law,
International Relations, International Economic
Relations and International Informationon
a regular basis. The Institutehas up-to-date
facilities topublish scientific literature, textbooks,
manuals andmethodological literature. Every
year the academiaprepareup to40 treatises
and textbooks, publishmore than300 scientific
articles. Transactions of the Institute and
Collections of researchpapers arepublished.
They are: Visnyk KyivskohoUniversytetu.
Mizhnarodni Vidnosyny (Heraldof KyivUniversity
of International Relations) andAktualni Problemy
MizhnarodnykhVidnosyn (Current Issues of
International Relations). TheChairs contribute to
anumber of international projects of TEMPUS-
TACIS, INTAS, Renaissance Foundation, etc.
The Institutehosts theUNESCO task forceon
democraticgovernance and cultureof peace.
International ties of the Institutedevelop
dynamically. They aremaintainedprimarilywithin
the framework of agreements towhich Taras
ShevchenkoUniversity is apart, aswell as based
onbilateral agreements between the Institute
and similar foreign institutions of higher learning,
scientific researchorganisations, and firms.
Within the framework of inter-university
agreements, the Institute co-operateswithover
60partner institutions of higher learning from
Great Britain, Belgium, Greece, Egypt, Iran, Spain,
Canada, China, the FRG, theRepublicof Korea,
Poland, Russia, theUSA, France, Japan andothers.
In2005KyivNational Taras Shevchenko
Universityhas concluded an agreement on
cooperation in the sphereof culture and
educationwith theUniversityof theUnitedArab
Emirates. Due to thedocument signed from
theUkrainianpart by the chancellor Prof. Victor
Skopenkowehave received theopportunity
to conduct joint researchworks, exchange
lecturers, R&Demployees and students. These
programs canbe short-term, for instance, for a
brief series of lectures or joint teachingor up
to thehalf-year term. The agreementmentions
also thepossibility toexchange invitations for
the scholars to attend conferences, briefing
sessions and seminars, conduct of researchwork.
An important part of the cooperationbetween
bothuniversities is theexchangeof scientific
information interesting for bothparts.
In compliancewith this document, the
parts have the right, under approval by the
representatives of bothuniversities, to add– as
an addendum to the agreement –provisions on
the cooperation inother fields. This agreement
is valid for theperiodof five years since signing
and canbeextended.
The Institute co-operateswith foreign
partnerswithin the framework of international
programmes of TACIS, TEMPUS, INTAS, NATO,
UNESCO, IAN andothers, Adenauer, Bertelsmann,
Ebert, Rosa Luxemburg (the FRG) Foundations,
Renaissance, Eurasia Foundations, Egyptian
foundation for Technical Co-operationwith
CISCountries. The Institutehosts the European
DocumentationCentre, IMF InformationCentre,
NATO Information andDocumentationCentre
and theGUAM InformationCentre.
Prominent foreign scholars and researchers
work at the Institute, civil servants frommany
countries deliver lectures on international
relations. The students, post graduate students
and academiahaveparticipated inmany
scientific conferences andworkshops.
